My Attempt at Home Improvement

I live in NJ, and there came a time when my wife and I realized it was time to look into replacement windows for our home. In the winter months we noticed a cold breeze creeping in around the edges of the windows. In the summer time, we realized we were able to hear our neighbor’s lawn mowers from down the block! These were both clues that it was time to get new windows, and I was convinced I could do the job myself.

I did my research online and visited numerous home improvement stores to ensure I would know all of the steps necessary when it came to replacing windows. I knew the importance of accurate measurements of the existing window space. If the measurements were off even by a small amount, then the new windows would not fit snugly in the existing space. There were also a number of window styles from which to choose. My wife and I decided the best window to go with was one that offered insulation from outside noise as well as weather and sunlight.  We then made a big decision to enlarge the window we had in the front room of our home. Originally there were two windows and we opted to enlarge that space into one picture window. This was a bit more involved and required assistance from a family friend who was a general contractor. He helped me to ensure the space was level and prepared correctly for the replacement window. Since I was not familiar with the construction laws in NJ, he also guided me in getting the appropriate permits that I needed for the renovation. After the openings for the new windows were prepared, we were ready for installation. That took no time at all, and the job was finally finished.

Dynamic Light Scattering

Dynamic light scattering is a technique that is also known as photon correlation spectroscopy. This particular technique is used in psychics, and can be used to determine the size distribution of small particles that are in suspension, or polymers in a solution. This type of technique is also used to probe the behavior of complex fluids, such as those in a concentrated polymer solution. 

This method has many types of advantages. The experiment duration is short and it is almost all automated. It also has low developmental costs. Commercialized particle sizing systems usually operate at only one angle, and that is 90 degrees. They also only use a red light of 675 nm. In this type of situation, the concentration is usually neglected. The more equipment that is used, the more expensive testing of the particles can be. Dynamic light scattering is quite capable of determining whether a protein is a monomer or dimer, it is much less accurate in determining smaller sizes that classic scattering or sedimentation velocity can determine. Another advantage of using this technique is there is a possibility that samples can be analyzed using a broader spectrum and distributions of species of widely different molecule masses. It can also detect high amounts of small masses of species. 

Particles, molecules and emulsions that are in suspension undergo the Brownian motion. This type of motion is induced by the bombardment of solvent molecules that are moving due to thermal energy. If these particles are illuminated by scattering light, the intensity and the size will determine how far the light is refracted. The Stokes-Einstein relationship comes into play here. The diameter that is measured during this technique is called hydrodynamic diameter. This refers to how a particle diffuses inside a fluid. It doesn’t only depend on the size and core, but what the surface of the particle is like as well.

Becoming a nail technician or a manicurist requires a commitment to formal education as well as on-the-job training. You must pass a state licensing exam and be regularly re-certified by your state of practice. Depending on which school you choose, it usually takes about six months to become a nail technician.

Nail technicians usually work on clients’ hands and feet in a beauty salon. Services include manicures, pedicures, nail art, applying or refilling gel or acrylic nails and paraffin treatments for the hands and feet.

Some manicurists also provide reflexology, which is a type of alternative medicine. Reflexology involves applying pressure to specific points on a client’s hands, feet or eats. You do not use any type of oil or lotion when practicing reflexology on a client. This alternative treatment claims that specific points of the body are connected to the flow of energy or “qi.” In some cases, it can help relax the client. However, reflexology is not a replacement for traditional medicine and should not be used as a sole treatment for serious medical conditions especially cancer.
